Sr. Mary Ellen Descourouez, OLVM


SISTER MARY ELLEN DESCOUROUEZ, OLVM, 86, died on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Saint Anne Community at Victory Noll, Huntington, Indiana.


Sister Mary Ellen was born in Geneva, Illinois, on January 21, 1935, to John Descourouez and Helen (Heisten) Descourouez.  Her parents and two brothers, Robert and William Descourouez all precede sister in death.  Surviving Sister Mary Ellen are several nieces and nephews and her Victory Noll Sisters, with whom she shared life and community for 68 years.


Sister Mary Ellen entered the Congregation of Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters on January 6, 1953 and made first vows on August 5, 1955.  She served in the states of Colorado, California, Florida, Texas, and Illinois.  She also served Buena Vista and Cochabamba, Bolivia.  Sr. Mary Ellen served the congregation in formation ministry and in the ministry of Leadership. She was one of the founding members of the “Julia Center” in Chicago, Illinois.  She returned to Victory Noll in 2009 and one of her volunteer ministries was a weekly reflection on the Gospel in both English and Spanish for the OLVM website.


Due to the COVID restrictions, services will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, for the sisters only.  If you would like to participate via livestream, please email victorynoll@olvm.org  to request the livestream link.


Burial will be at Victory Noll Cemetery, Huntington, IN.


McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN, is in charge of arrangements.
