Voting is our way to have a voice

Today we go to the polls in Huntington for municipal elections. I am reminded of how important it is to cast a vote for the candidates that will work for the common good, especially the most vulnerable in our community. We also have a referendum on the ballot for maintaining our school buildings and providing salaries for teachers.

One of the principles of Catholic Social Teaching to guide our actions, is "Community and the Common Good."

"How we organize our society--in economics and politics, in law and policy--directly affects human dignity and the capacity of individuals to grow in community. The obligation to "love our neighbor" has an individual dimension, but it also requires a broader social commitment. Everyone has a responsibility to contribute to the good of the whole society, to the common good. "
