Spiritual Direction
Formation Program
Two-year Formation Program
preparing Spiritual Directors
This intensive two-year pastoral ministry program engages participants in the practice of spiritual direction. The formation and education process of spiritual directors is approached from within the classical and contemporary contemplative tradition rooted in a theology of the Holy Spirit.
Program components include the regular practice of contemplative prayer and discernment, peer group, required reading of books and articles, presentations/projects, writing integrating papers, personal reflection and spiritual friends conversations throughout the program. Outside of program time, those in the Spiritual Direction Practicum continue their personal participation in spiritual direction as well as individual direction mentoring with an experienced spiritual director.
Modules over the two years are:
1) The Contemplative Nature of Spiritual Direction
2) Christian Discernment in the Contemplative Tradition
3) Adult Development & Spiritual Direction

Helpful Explanations
Spiritual direction is the art of Christian listening carried out in the context of a one-to-one relationship for the purpose of being attentive and responsive to the movement of God’s presence, inviting one into a deeper relationship with God.
Private retreat is time and space apart for persons who search and hunger for deeper and quieter prayer, desiring to know God more personally and to spend time with Him.
Directed retreat is a private retreat as described above, with the assistance of a spiritual director.
