The Sister Evelyn Mourey Center in El Centro, California, is a multi-purpose center established to meet the needs of the poor living in a low-income housing development (La Posada del Sol) and the surrounding areas. It strives to give hope to all who walk through their doors by serving each with love, respect and dignity.
The Sister Evelyn Mourey Center services include:
- English as a Second Language (ESL) classes,
- Material assistance for families in need,
- Referrals to legal services, housing, employment and immigration counseling,
- Citizenship classes,
- Computer classes to prepare clients for the job market,
- AL-ANON meetings to give support to families of those with alcohol and drug addictions,
- U.S.D.A. commodities and emergency food assistance to approximately five hundred families in need.
