Victory Noll Sisters celebrate
Founder’s Day March 13

On March 13 each year, the Victory Noll Sisters celebrate Founder’s Day. This day is set aside to remember Father John Joseph Sigstein, the Founder of our Congregation, in a special way. At our Motherhouse, a Mass is offered in remembrance of Father, with a reflection recalling his efforts in birthing this new Missionary Congregation in 1922. A festive dinner is planned, with entertainment by the Sisters recalling some significant and at times humorous events in Father’s life.
Father Sigstein was a parish priest from Chicago who visited the Southwest in the 1920s. While there he became aware of the poverty and oppression of the Hispanic people, and also their lack of instruction in their Catholic faith. He felt called to do something and prayed for direction and inspiration. As a result of his reflection and prayer he was given the mission and vision to found the Congregation of Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters, called at that time the Society of Missionary Catechists. This took a great amount of prayer, work collaboration, effort, and permission from church authorities for his dream to become a reality. However, in 1922 his vision did indeed become a reality and continues to this very day. Our first Sisters went to the Southwest. They lived among the people, working with them to improve their living conditions. They also did home nursing and begain to provide Religious education for children and adults.
We are most grateful to Father Sigstein, a man of great faith, trust, hope, and love, who would not give up until his dream to minister to God’s suffering people became a reality. May the vision, mission and charism of this Congregation continue on into the future for the honor and glory of God.

Congar Institute
for Ministry Development

We want to minister to the culturally diverse Catholic population of this country, proclaiming Jesus Christ through evangelization, education and/or Christian formation. We would like to offer a solid Catholic teaching and ministries that speak to the needs of the faith communities, empowering the Laity, dedicating our prayer and ministry to the proclamation of God's Kingdom.
That is why we have become part of a network of religious communities collaborating to assist home mission dioceses in their efforts to develop lay leadership and ministry. This is an initiative of the Home Missions Leadership Conference and the Congar Institute for Ministry Development.
