“Entanglement” is the word that physicists use to describe the connections between separated particles that persist in spite of time or space. “Entanglement” tells me that I am directly connected to all that ever has been, is now, or will be.
Jesus used a terminology of his day to describe this connection we share, not only with him but with the Father, with one another and with the universe. He spoke of the vine and branches, yeast in the dough, seed in the ground, and best of all, our oneness with him and the Father and with one another. “…that they all may be one, as you Father are in me and I am in you. May they also be one in us.” Jn 17:21)
Unless we focus on our “oneness, our “entanglement,” with all with whom we share this planet, the daily news will depress us with its portrayal of an “enemy” leering out at us from a greedy corporate world, dishonest politicians and unrecognizable terrorists. We need to learn to keep the eyes of our heart steadily focused on Jesus. His life, thank God, is eternally “entangled” in our own.
Only when we remember to rest secure and serene in the loving arms of God will we have the wisdom, strength and courage to live Christ-like lives in the “entanglements” of today’s world.
