Sister Mary Jo Nelson grew up in Oregon and joined the Victory Noll Sisters in 1975 after completing college and working as a youth minister.

Sr. Mary Jo’s previous experience of leadership in diocesan ministry in southern California that included religious education, pastoral planning as well as being one of the few women in the United States to pioneer in leadership as Vice Chancellor and Chancellor, serves as a rich resource for her current ministry in Congregational leadership.

Sister Mary Jo holds graduate degrees in Religious Education and Organization Development and a certificate in Spiritual Direction. She has served as a consultant and facilitator for parishes and religious communities, and as a workshop presenter especially in the areas of leadership development, team development and spirituality.
